Mfon Udofia will be staying in state when he begins his college basketball career next year. The 6’2 point guard from Stone Mountain, Georgia made the decision to commit to Georgia Tech last week while in Las Vegas for the Reebok Summer Championships. Udofia is ranked in the top 30 prospects for the class of 2009 and in the top five for the point guard position. He made his announcement shortly after a monumental match-up against the top player in the class, John Wall. At Georgia Tech, Udofia hopes to follow in the footsteps of some of the program’s great point guards from the past. “Georgia Tech is like point guard U," Udofia told Rivals.com. "They've had Kenny Anderson, Stephon Marbury, Jarrett Jack, Javaris Crittenton. They've had a lot of really good point guards come out of Tech. All of them are top guards. I'm looking forward to going there and seeing if I have that same kind of potential, too. It's a point guard school." Udofia will finish out his summer playing with his team, Worldwide Renegades and is also hoping to help the Yellow Jackets shore up some of their other recruiting quests. He has his eye on several teammates and other players including fellow GBOA South stars, Kenny Boynton and Derrick Favors. "Now I get to work on the rest of the players. I get to tell them about the school and try to get them to come with us," Udofia said. "I get to put my recruiter's hat on now. I gotta get some more players." |
