As a sophomore, Trae Golden figured he had some time to think about where he wanted to go to college; he figured he wouldn’t be making that decision any time soon. But the 6’1 guard from Georgia found himself changing plans. Golden decided to make an early commitment to join the Ohio State men’s basketball team in 2010 after graduating high school. As only a sophomore, Golden averaged 24 points per game for his McEachern team out of Powder Springs, Georgia. In the middle of his season Golden and his family visited the Columbus campus and shortly after made the decision to become a Buckeye. "It was a great visit, everybody was really nice. In the end it was my relationship with Coach Matta and Coach Groce that was the biggest factor,” Golden told Rivals. “Really I just like everything from the fans, to the campus, to the facilities, but it was the coaches." Golden joins a stellar Buckeye recruiting class that includes rising stars, DeShaun Thomas and Jared Sullinger. That incoming trio should give OSU fans something to look forward to for the next several years. Buckeye fans can also catch Golden in action with his summer hoops team the Atlanta Celtics, when they play in the GBOA South tournament in Atlanta June 28 and 29. |
