Atlanta Celtics

Where will Derrick Favors play college basketball?  That’s the question on a lot of basketball fans’ minds.  Favors is the #3 ranked player for the class of 2009 and the top ranked power forward.  The 6’9’’ junior from Atlanta nearly averaged a triple double at South Atlanta High School, scoring 23 points per game to go along with 17 rebounds and 9 blocks.

This spring has offered Favors the opportunity to showcase his superstar skills against many of the top players in the country.  Strong showings at several major tournaments have some regarding him as the top big man in the country and possibly even the top player.  Favors will further his case at June’s GBOA South tournament in his hometown of Atlanta. The GBOA South tournament will offer grassroots fans their own opportunity to watch Favors match up against some of the other top players in the country.  His team, the Atlanta Celtics, is favored to win the South title.

Currently, Favors is being heavily recruited by USC, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Duke and Kansas.  After making official visits to USC and the Georgia schools, Favors says he also plans to use the summer to visit Duke among many other schools.  However, the big man is in no rush to make a decision and is likely to wait until the end of the summer to announce his future plans.  Something college basketball fans across the country will be anxiously waiting for.
