This past weekend’s Rumble in the Bronx tourney at Fordham University had every bit the makings of a championship fight. With several rounds to determine the winner, conditioned athletes competing for basketball supremacy and even a near brawl in the semi-finals! Though not diminishing play and competiveness, the New York Gauchos came out victorious defeating in-city rival, New York Panthers, 76-63. It was a team effort but the play of the big three (Durand Scott, Dan Jennings and Doron Lamb) was too much for Oswald Cross’s Panther team.Scott’s title game performance included 14 points (4 of 10 shooting), eight rebounds and eight assists. A stellar performing Lamb had 16 points while only missing three shots the entire game. Big man Dan Jennings used his size and Hulk-like strength to overpower the Panthers defense. The Panthers soon found out why you don’t want to make him angry as he went on to score 12 points, grab nine rebounds and blocking six shots in the final 16 minutes of play. His performance throughout the tourney was enough to earn him MVP honors as well.A well rounded performance by the big three and invaluable contributions from all the Gauchos earned them the right to leave the Bronx crowned champions.
