Southeast Elite’s Varez Ward has made a commitment to play basketball next year for Rick Barnes at the University of Texas. The 6’2 senior made his decision late in the signing period and is considered a steal for the Longhorns. Ward had initially committed to The University of Cincinnati but decided to part ways with the school and explore other options. His summer hoops coach, Norm Williams believes Ward will have a great opportunity to come in as a freshman and contribute right away for the program. "They are getting a kid that when it is all said and done, people will ask who is this kid and where did he come from?" Williams told Rivals. "I really think he can step right in and be a tremendous defender. I've never questioned that about him. People question his offensive skills but after three of four years of working with him, I know what he is going to do. I think he can pick up the slack from D.J.'s (Augustin) departure." |
