For most high schoolers July is a month to relax and enjoy all summer has to offer. This isn’t the case for Dexter Fields. The junior guard from Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida is using July to prove himself to college coaches. Fields hopes to use the month of July to gather some college offers. The 6’2 scoring guard averaged 17 points per game to go along with 5 rebounds en route to leading his Olympia team to a 24-3 overall record and an 8-0 conference record. Fields’ ability to score makes him an interesting prospect for many schools. Nebraska, Marquette, Penn State, South Florida and Central Florida along with several others have already expressed interest. Though many schools have expressed interest, Fields says he has three schools as front runners right now. "My top three right now are Nebraska, Marquette and Penn State," Fields told Rivals.com. "I like the sets that they run and their offense that they all run. Most of the players on these teams are all graduating and they will have players leaving so there will be an opportunity to play right away." Fields and his summer hoops team, Florida Assault will get an early start to the important month of July, when they participate in GBOA’s South Region Tournament in Atlanta June 28 and 29. Fields and the Assault will be matched up against some stiff competition in the South as top teams, Atlanta Celtics, Team Breakdown and World Wide Renegades are expected to participate in the GBOA Tournament next week. |
