Player Spotlight: Scott Wood (SYF Players)
Friday, 11 April 2008 21:46

The SYF Players will be the team to watch in the GBOA North Region with the help of Marion's Scott Wood II. A 6-foot-6, 165-pound sharp-shooter, Wood averages 19 points, 4.4 rebounds, and one blocked shot per game. He is definitely going to be a key player in the Players' roster, bringing his speed and accuracy to the court. Wood's high school basketball career has seen great success, and he looks to bring the same energy to the SYF Players this summer.

Wood holds his schools' record for 3-pointers made, and his father Wood Jr. is proud to watch his son develop on the court. "Ever since he was little, he could always shoot like that," Wood Jr. told Rivals.com. "He is going to break a lot of records."

Marion's high school coach Joe Luce altered his offense this season, giving Wood more responsibility. "Wood has been ridiculous," Luce told Rivals.com. "He can be blindfolded and shoot them in. He is a definite offensive weapon and is averaging close to 20 points a game." Wood does not take all the honor, however, by always crediting his teammates for his surge in scoring this year.

Wood committed to N.C. State in February and looks to finish out the year strong. According to Rivals, 2007 NCAA Champions Florida also made a late run at Wood, speaking volumes of his potential. In the end, Wood said the chance to play for the "Wolfpack" in the ACC was too great to resist. North region teams will need to keep an eye out for this quick shooting guard during the GBOA tournament May 10-11th in Chicago.
