Despite his famous father, Marcus Jordan of the Rising Stars Gold, gets game jitters just like everyone else. His solution? Listening to a lot of Lil Wayne!

I spoke with Marcus after his team beat the Illinois Old School at a tournament at UIC this past weekend. Tired from the game, Jordan was still all smiles as he joked around with his teammates and friends. His talent on the court is exceptional, but Jordan is still just a regular guy with a great sense of humor.

How young were you when you started playing basketball?

-I was in 6th grade when I first started playing.

Who are some of your mentors?
-Definitely my dad and my brother. My idol is Allen Iverson.

What does your typical work out schedule look like in a week?
-I work out every day except for Sunday I take a break.

What was the happiest moment of your life playing basketball?
-Probably when I scored 72 points in a house league game with the Rising Stars, but hopefully I will have a lot more of these happy moments as I continue playing.

What is your biggest strength as a leader on and off the court?
-I am definitely very vocal. If I have a problem with a teammate or something happening in the game I speak up to solve it.

A lot of people don’t know a lot about Grassroots Basketball, explain to me how you pick a team to play with every summer?
-I’ve been playing with the Rising Stars my whole life, so it wasn’t a hard decision. They have a great program.

Tell me your thoughts on the upcoming season with the Rising Stars Gold?
-It’s our last season together, so we’d like to go out and win everything.

How do you decide what tournaments to attend and what teams to play?
-Coach Davis does a good job of finding the top tournaments with a high level of competition for the team.

The Rising Stars competed in GBOA’s North Tournament last weekend, any thoughts or suggestions?
-It was definitely a great tournament. We had to play hard every game and GBOA created a really fun atmosphere.

College is obviously something on your mind, who are some of your top college prospects?
-My parents handle all my recruiting so I am not really sure who is interested.

What are you looking for in the college you decide to attend?
-Definitely a great education, I also would like to go to a bigger school.

Outside of basketball what are your interests/plans?
-I really like law so I would like to do entertainment law in the future.

Besides playing with the Rising Stars, what are you plans for the summer?
-Traveling, I love to travel. I get to do a lot of traveling with the team as well; our next tournament is in North Carolina so it’s a lot of fun.

If I followed you around Whitney Young for a day what would I see?
-It would be a very funny day; I like to joke around a lot so you’d be laughing most of the time.
