Rising Stars Season Preview

The Rising stars have been having a great season. The team currently holds a record of 14-6, and finished in the elite 8 at the Illinois AAU tournament. The team also qualified for AAU Nationals. At Houston Kingwood Classic the team lost in the sweet sixteen and placed 2nd in the King James Shooting Stars Classic this past weekend in Akron, Ohio. The success the Stars are comes as no surprise when you take a look at the team’s impressive roster and record.

First we have Cortney Bell, a 6-foot-5 junior prospect from Lincoln Park High School. Bell is a Division I prospect and shows great athleticism on the court. Forward Jack Cooley is hands down the best Big Man in the state of Illinois in the junior class. This 6-foot-9 junior has already verbally committed to the University of Notre Dame.

Eric Dortch and Andrew Gallow are two 6-foot-4 juniors attracting attention from Division I prospects. Teammate Nik Garcia has received scholarship offers from Alabama, Southern Illinois, Akron, Illinois State, and Northern Illinois. Garcia is a High Major prospect and will be adding more schools to his impressive list as the season progresses. He is regarded as the best shooter in the state of Illinois class of 2009.

Point guard Cully Payne is renowned as the best point guard in the state of Illinois in the junior class. At 6-foot-2, Payne has impressive talent on the court and has verbally committed to DePaul University. Teammate Jereme Richmond is ranked in the top 5 in the country in the 2010 class. Rounding off the roster we have Evan Okrezesik, a 6-foot-1 junior from Fenwick High School.

Perhaps the most familiar name on the Stars’ roster is Marcus Jordan, youngest son of basketball legend Michael Jordan. Marcus is a Division I High Major prospect and is being heavily recruited. Jordan is extremely athletic and strong, and gets it down on both ends of the floor offensively and defensively. According to Coach Davis, “[Jordan] can play with any guard in the country.”

The Rising Stars have an entire team built of star players. This team knows how to play smart and be successful. They are the team to beat at the GBOA North tournament in Chicago.
