That one time I dyed my hair ombré.

(For everyone’s reference: ombré=The effect of color graduation from light to dark. See what I did there?)

For literally the past year, I have been intrigued with the latest trend of ombré hair, my obsession levels practically equal to America’s Got Talent producers’ desperation for relevance.

I would spend hours googling hairstyles or “Is ombré still cool?,” persuading everyone else I know to dye their hair ombré (My little naive guinea pig friends), even cutting out pictures of Drew Barrymore’s hair from a magazine to put on an “inspiration board.” I was that crazy about it–just look at my Pinterest boards.

The picture that inspired it all. (Thanks Pinterest!)

But, with a lot of things in life, I tend to overthink and over-research…everything. It’s paralyzing! So, I decided to go for it…and I love it! I don’t regret it at all. It’s perfect for summer!

It’s a little lighter than this now, more “natural.”

Alas, it does have one sad drawback: my ombré hair does NOT bring all the hipster boys to the yard. Maybe it’s my eagerness about life (which is a side effect from being formerly homeschooled), lack of a tobacco addiction, or utter dearth of any of  Zooey Deschanel’s charm forced quirkiness…I thought my ombre hair would be like a beacon of two-toned light, summoning the subculture I so love. (Clarification: Do I want to ever qualify as a hipster? Uh no. I just love hipster guys.)

“Hey girl. I love ombré & I know you dyed it out of the purest ambitions, not trying to be trendy or purposefully hipster-esque.” -Ryan Gosling.

I need to find a new subculture to secretly obsess with when I go to Starbucks.
